The University of Sheffield was founded in 1905 and its history can be traced back to 1828. During the past century, its scale and academic reputation have developed enormously. Sheffield’s Facilities
Sheffield’s library is extensive. It includes as many as 13 million volumes in its collection, including books, journals, newspapers, microfilms, reports, manuals, government publications, papers, videos, audio tapes, and CD’s. Its electronic library is comprised of databases and publications, connected to the Internet, to enable students’ to study outside the classroom.
All computers are connected with the campus networks, providing a large range of software, including email, web browsers, word processors, database management, spreadsheets, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and statistics. Each registered student in the campus network has his/her own account and private security on the central server. Students can also access their files, e-mail and the Internet off-campus.
Sheffield’s health centre provides basic health care services. Its counselling centre helps students resolve any issues, such as academic concerns, human relationships, exam stress, depression and anxiety. Specially trained counsellors also provide individual services.

Sheffield International College offers international students the best pathway to a degree from the University of Sheffield. The College provides high quality and flexible foundation pathway programmes that are specifically designed to prepare international students for admission. Currently, Sheffield International College offers up to 192 undergraduate courses and master’s courses that international students can enrol on.
The International College implements a dual-admissions policy, which means, if students complete Sheffield’s foundation course, they will be provided with an unconditional offer to be admitted to a University of Sheffield undergraduate (or Master’s) course, with no requirement to apply or take an IELTS examination. Sheffield International College Admission Requirements
Undergraduate: IELTS 5.0 or above. High-school graduation with main subject scores of 80 or above.
Pre-Masters: IELTS 5.0 or above. Three-year post-secondary education, university graduate (or equivalent), with average scores of 85.
University of Sheffield Admission Requirements
Undergraduate: Applicants with a Chinese Senior High School Certificate will need to complete a recognised foundation course to be considered for entry to the first year of undergraduate studies.
Postgraduate: Applicants are required to achieve a minimum of IELTS 6 (or TOEFL Paper Based score of 550 or TOEFL Computer Based score of 213). Some academic departments may require a higher score.
